It has occurred to me that we play 76 games out of the 162 against the other teams in the AL West. If the season were to start tomorrow we could easily go 39-18 against the Rangers, Mariners, and the Angels. We feel bad because we have lost 3 proven starters from last year but look at Oakland, the A's do not have a proven starter on their current roster. They also have lost Lowrie and Lucroy and a good portion of their bullpen. They also have a very limited budget. After more consideration all this talk about splashy moves is just wishful thinking. My thinking about who we will sign has changed, now instead of Eovaldi my expectation is Happ or Cahill. Instead of Pollock or Brantley I am thinking Granderson. Cruz though could still happen. So we can win 95 games by doing just a little shoring up and that most likely will be enough to win the division.
Don't get me wrong, I am convinced that if another deal like the one that landed us Cole presents itself we will make a splash. The thing we will not do is something like trading Tucker, Valdez, and Nova for two years of Realmuto. There is nothing wrong with surveying the landscape and when you find nothing that strikes your fancy, sit back and let the market come to you. It will make for a boring winter but it will leave us with a strong system and an opportunity to let the kids prove themselves up.

A guy who has the ability to be a Morton type of signing would be Shelby Miller. He was very good until he went to Arizona. Maybe we can fix him like we did Morton.

IF we get Realmuto, does that move alone make this a better team? I say no. They must replace Marwin, Tucker, and Gattis with something really good. Then, they still have to worry about pitching. Essentially, trading Tucker for Realmuto doesn’t solve much. Well, it definitely improves the offense. Marwin has already been replaced, and Gattis' production would be duplicated (and likely exceeded) by White. So adding Realmuto would improve an already improved team, offensively. That would just leave LF (easy) and the pitching (more concerning).

If he’s signed, I wouldn’t expect too much but hope for the best. If it’s a reclamation project you’re after, that’s the target. I wouldn’t feel secure about Miller without an additional signing like Morton. Let’s assume Whitley isn’t ready yet.

I was gonna post it last night This guy is a area scout slash beat writer or info investigator idk which but Brian Mctaggart trust him. (So I have a source...I was told to not get specific but the Astros on the verge of signing an impact player that will rock the Astros fan base. I’m sorry...can’t expand other than that. I’ll keep the twittersphere posted.) (All you Terry, enjoy the glory. This isn’t Bryce but could be twice as nice.) The Terry guy is the guy who brought up the Harper has an interest in the Astros a couple days ago. What do you think of the above? Twice as nice. GRIENKE AND GOLDSCHMIDT?? We're bringing Hunter Pence back!!?!!??!!?!?!? WOOHOO!!!!

If they ever brought in Harper, Springer can kiss that extension goodbye. I think it would send a negative message to the clubhouse if that were to occur. Harper would be great to have, but you’ve got to reward the guys who’ve got you there before you hand out megacontracts to outsiders.

Chirinos getting $5.75 million. Doesn’t sound like he was signed to back up Realmuto.

I'd be fine with utilizing Chirinos and Stassi as our backstops. I think that offensive production will already be better than what we got last season. Now focus on improving the offense and starting rotation.

Know why? He typed "than" rather than "then", and he has shown in the past that he doesn't know how to differentiate between the two, and uses "then" 100% of the time.

signing an impact player that will rock the Astros fan base. Only trades fit this description .. not free-agent signings. Unless it's Harper

To be clear, I am not advocating taking the Cleveland approach to playoff baseball. That is what I think the approach will be unless something too good to pass up presents itself. Doing that and then getting what we need at the deadline does make a lot of sense though.

Harper is the only name that would.
And like said before Springer would be gone.
