Thankfully we have Luhnow who doesn’t get caught up in all the hype and overpay. I know he throws hard, but am I missing something? Fool's gold!

I'm afraid we might end up with Fiers again...he was DFA'd or something the other day.

I'm afraid we might end up with Fiers again...he was DFA'd or something the other day. I don't think Luhnow is that stupid. I'd overpay to get Keuchel to stay before I'd consider signing that useless piece of garbage.

That is more than twice what I would have offered him. I would have liked to had him, but, on no more than a three year deal for not more than $25-30 million. Keuchel may very well get what he wants. So far, mlbtraderumors' predictions have been pretty close. They predicted 6-years $129 million for Corbin, and 4-years $60 million for Eovaldi. Both of those guys got a little more than the projected numbers. They predicted 4-years $82 million for Keuchel. If the pattern continues, he could be looking at 4-years $85-90 million (probably more if he didn't come with losing a draft pick to whomever signs him). I like Keuchel and I think he's probably worth that compared to the free agent market, but that's not money we should be spending on him right now, imo. If we over-pay a free agent pitcher (not that I want us to), I'd rather it be on a shorter term deal. I don't mind re-signing him but not for what he can get somewhere else. I thought the Yankees would have signed him by now, but, maybe they aren't as high on him as some thought.

Before I would gut the farm for a rental or overpay in $ and years for FA SP, I would rather go into the season with a rotation of Verlander, Cole, McHugh....not a bad 1-3 actually....and take my chances on two of Peacock, James, Valdez, Cionel Perez and Armenteros covering the 4 & 5 slots and then pick up another, more dominant, SP at the trade deadline for the stretch run. I think we have the makings of a decent bullpen. I really expect that Deetz will make the team out of ST, if he is not traded, and help the team. Valdez and/or Perez in the bullpen wouldn’t be bad. Presley, Devo, Osuna, Rondon..., then there are the arms on the farm who could help out at some point....IMO we have the arms to win the AL West, I think and certainly to get us to the trade deadline in good shape. I am ok with some combination of Chirinos, Stassi and Stubbs handling the catching duties. Honestly I am more concerned about having a legitimate DH from opening day and a legitimate bat in LF than I am about our pitching right now. That's how I view it as well. I don't see any reason for us to get crazy and overpay for mediocrity. If the right deal is there go for it, but I don't want to see us get stupid. And, IF we were going to get stupid, please don't get stupid over a 1B... If the Astros can just a legit bat at DH, then that really allows the Astros to give more ABs to Tucker in LF. White and Gurriel will split time at 1b and Gurriel will play the super utility role along with Diaz....Straw will be your bench OF, who can be a PR or late inning defensive replacement...Kemp, unless traded, will be your OBP PH, plus one who can swipe bases once upon... So hitting wise just get a very good DH....and I still trust Luhnow to get a SP, whether it be FA or trade. One that fits the mold of what Luhnow and Strom like, and at the same time one that is not going to cost that much in money or quality of prospects....the next Morton.

Please........we traded Hader to the Brewers and brought back those two losers.......Fiers and Gomez.......in return. We got royally fleeced on that deal. Hader would look great in our pen.

Speaking of Fiers...we keep hearing what a genius Strom is, and how he "works magic" to "fix" pitchers...well, why didn't he wave his magic wand and fix Mike Fiers?

Not that I want him back (although I thought he did fine for us for what we needed 21-19 4.59 ERA and ate a lot of innings when we had injuries), but he is projected for a solid season:
10-9 160 IP 4.22 ERA

Outside the box thinking would you trade Tony Kemp and a prospect for Tommy Pham and Ryan Stanek?

Outside the box thinking would you trade Tony Kemp and a prospect for Tommy Pham and Ryan Stanek? Everybody would. That's why it won't happen. Why would the Rays give up two good MLB-ready players with years of control left for one 4th OFer and a prospect?

Strom or any other pitching coach can't create talent and give guts to spineless pitchers like Fiers. I got so sick of watching him stalk off the mound like a whipped puppy when Hinch pulled him out of games.

We are trading Kemp + some average player for Trout and Ohtani....How dare you try to sabotage that deal!

Nothing against tattoos, I have a few, but that one on him drove me crazy.

No. Dombrowski may be though. Dombrowski is missing common sense. That’s Dombrowski’s modus operandi. He was never afraid to spend.

I don't want him back. Just pointing out that the projected production is decent. His HR rate is still ridiculous and his FIP was bad last year. I'm surprised the projection is that good, tbh.

In his story today on ESPN, @dschoenfield calls the #Astros a "sleeper team" on Bryce Harper. 🤔
He isnt the first theres growing since ot could go down
3yrs. With player option on 4th and 5th years.
Something along those lines

They want a power bat really really badly

F it. Madison Bumgarner and Buster Posey.
Of course no. But Zaidi is at the wheel and he could try and clean the house and build his team. You also have to convince Posey to waive his no trade clouse and figure out the money situation

I never thought I'd see the day where 160 IP of nearly 5 ERA with a ton of HR given up would be classified as "solid".

Michael Brantley’s reps are telling clubs he is willing and able to play 1B for the first time as a major leaguer. No team is looking at Brantley full-time at 1B, but those interested in him are aware of his versatility. Brantley played 53 games at 1B in the minors in 2007-08.
