these defensive plays by McCann and Springer may just swing the whims of fate in the Astros' favor here.

So far, Smith isn’t doing as good as I hoped.

So far, Smith isn’t doing as good as I hoped. Exactly what I was thinking. The way the bats are going three runs might be insurmountable but I hope I’m wrong.

Looking more like Fisher will be the guy to go down when Yuli returns.
Davis is hitting his stride as he normally does after a week in the bigs.

This game looks colder than the ones the Oilers used to play at the Dawg Pound

The victory here was to have no injuries.

Other promising signs here were: Only 5 strikeouts by Astros batters; Davis turning it around at the plate; Reddick showing good plate discipline. Try to win the series tomorrow.

McHugh and Davis were about the only bright spots tonight. Bregman and Springer look terrible. Correa is on pace to set a record for hitting into double plays. OUr bats have all died at the same time.

Son.., I say son.., I’m done. This game is about as exciting as a case of diarrhea at an orgy. My favorite was when he called Prissy "sharp as a sack of wet mice"My favorite is when he told little Henery the chicken hawk, “Pay attention boy! Ima cuttin, but you ain’t bleedin’!”

Again, they weren't going to win every game and Minnesota isn't a bad team. Keuchel had bad luck with the weak grounders today, which if you go back and look, helped make the first two runs possible. That inning was the difference in him giving up 3 ER in 4 IP and giving up 1 ER in 5+ IP. His control wasn't great but the ump was tight also.
I'm not worried about Smith either. He'll be fine. Overall our bullpen gave up 1 ER in four innings. I'll take that almost every game.
The story here is the atrocious offense still. I know Hinch likes to stick with guys, and I think that's normally a good idea. But, with the early game today and a day off tomorrow, I hope he shifts some people around today.

Springer is in the same kind of funk that he was in during the ALCS vs New York and the first game of the WS that had a lot of us calling for him to be moved out of the leadoff spot in the batting order. He is in that funk for the same reason that he was in a funk during those games. He is on one of his tangents where his every swing is an effort to hit the ball out of the ballpark just as close to the LF foul line as he possibly can. It is great that he was able to turn it around in games 2-7 of the WS, but that doesn’t change the fact that he was hampering the offense in the leadoff spot in the ALCS through the first game of the WS..., just like he is hampering the offense in the leadoff spot now. Having Davis/Fisher, Marisnick and Springer at 8, 9 and 1 in the order has been like giving the opposing pitcher three consecutive free outs more often than not. I am hoping Springer will get over his pull happy funk soon because when he decides to just go with the pitch he is a totally different hitter than what we are seeing right now.

“The story here is the atrocious offense still.”
I anticipate Yuli’s return having a big positive impact on the offense. Putting Yuli at 1B and Marwin in LF will get Jake and either Davis or Fisher out of the everyday starting lineup. Having Yuli at #5 in the order behind Correa should take some pressure off CC. Hitting... or not hitting ..is contagious. If Yuli comes in on a roll he could get the whole offense going.

Just about everything runs in streaks. We have great pitching but the offense stinks, then we will have great hitting and the pitching will suffer, then we will have both, and then we will have neither one. In the end we will have around 110 wins, a slightly worse pace than we are currently experiencing.

I noticed Springer pulling his head out on a couple swings last night. I don't think he's eyeing the ball all the way through the bat barrel. Whatever's ailing the offense Beltrán and Cora would probably know

This is the nature of Springer’s offense, which is why I’m not too worried. The guy is like a righthanded Griffey at times and then Gomez other times. He just happens to be Gomez Now, but it’ll change.
What bothers me about this team is people not picking each other up when they struggle. Too often, it seems like when one or two guys struggle, everyone else does too. Why does a lineup with Springer, Bregman, Altuve, Correa, González, etc. all get into a funk simultaneously? That’s what baffles me, and we saw it last season too.
