Only two of Houstons farm hands have gotten into action so far in the AFL. Pena is hitting 333 with 5 hits in 15 at bats and Matejevic is hitting 462 and hit a home run last night. He also is playing 1st base.

Whitley finishes throwing 4.2 innings, allowing 0 runs, 1 hit, walking 2 and striking out 6. He threw 83 pitches, 46 for strikes. Um, almost half his pitches were outside the strike zone.

perhaps the best thing that could happen to Whitley would be to be made the long relief guy in Houston's bullpen next year. Having the ability to talk to old pros like Verlander and Greinke and getting the combined knowledge of those two guys and their opinion of how to be successful for such long terms might just be the ticket for our young head case.

Seth Beer hitting 357 in the Arizona fall league. Watching this guy play for someone else will be tough but even if he is an all star we would still have to do that trade.

Colton Shaver had a good game Tuesday for Peoria. Went 2-4 and threw out 2 of 3 runners attempting to steal.

Probably will work with him in LF and at 1B, but with next season likely being Yuli’s last with Houston, it would be nice if Yordan could step in at 1B after next season.

This brings back a memory from my childhood. I remember going to see the Colt 45’s play the Giants at old Colt Stadium. The Giants had brought up Willie McCovey and he was put out in LF because Orlando Cepeda was the Giants first baseman. A ball was lined into LF in front of McCovey and it bounced a few times and then went between his feet and all the way to the LF wall. McCovey just turned around and watched the ball roll. He never made a move to go after the ball. Willie Mays had to come all the way from center field to pick the ball up and through it back in. I never liked McCovey after that. The Giants soon traded Cepeda to the Cardinals and put McCovey at first base.

Yes. I don't expect Yuli's PEDS to sustain him through next season...er, I mean...

El Cabusto, in his reign in LF, lowered the elevation of that part of the park by 2 feet.

If they'd let him re-start his Ritalin or whatever he was on, he could be an ace.
ETA: It was Adderall, I think.

Colton Shaver went hit less in his AFL game on Sunday, but he did throw out the only runner who attempted to steal on him.

We may want to keep an eye on Jojanse Torres. He head an excellent year at A and Advanced A ball this year, going 12-0 and posting a 1.71 ERA across the 2 levels. Looks like he is being used as a closer by Peoria in the Arizona Fall League. He has pitched one inning in each of the 3 games he has participated in. He earned the save in his last 2 games, striking out the side in both games. He has 8 strikeouts in his 3 IP so far and has not allowed a run.
