I think the best thing about Detroit is that you can get out rather easily. I'm sure there must be some nice areas off the beaten path, but I saw nothing I would miss from the freeways during the six months I was in Southfield and crossing Detroit. But that's not really different from Chicago and what you can see from their freeways. Perhaps you can tell us of these better areas. I'd love to know the positives from an area that looks uninviting from a distance.
ps Cook County is the only Courthouse in the country with a limit of ten pages a day for copies of public real property records. That is ridiculous.

The freeway system isn't as ridiculous as Chicago. For one thing, you don't have to pay a toll every five miles to avoid the 'Damn Ryan' through the middle of town. But the road conditions are horrible throughout Michigan.
Downtown Detroit isn't of much interest other than Hart Plaza and Greektown. There's some decent development going on in the Fox Theater area. Some of the best stuff is in the suburbs, though. Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village are world-class.

I knew there had to be something there that I missed or it would be a ghost town. But the courthouse antics left a very bitter taste in my mouth. You couldn't even get one entire document in a day. But I did like Southfield. |

Southfield is okay but Franklin is posh. We used to ride our motorcycles through there and stop by the cider mill in the fall. A bit to the east of Southfield is Woodward Avenue. Every year they have a massive boulevard cruise. We're talking over a million people attending. Tens of thousands of antique, classic, and exotic cars.

Bortaz is green, which happens to be my favorite color. beyond legend, already mentioned posters, Olpapa and Bortaz, here are some kind words on a few of the posters here: Union is my BFAM, fellow posse and has great takes because they usually fall in line with my own. Sempersmom is the best cheerleader/fan we ever had..plus she puts up with our sh*t. Txheat greatest story teller and can put people in their place with the best of them VD, well he is the butt of a lot of jokes, but he is impervious, he stays true to himself and just takes it with a msiel. Bear and Batman - just great humor guys, fellow posse, wish they would post more Corch, every forum needs a heel...he is a good heel, because you know he is at least a fan of the team. Saint, good guy, fellow posse, comes off a little condescending, but usually what he says is right. Invader of the North - I think he his funny, and I am envious of his photo shop skills Bregmanfan and Paastrosfan - solid posters, good baseball knowledge, along with Olpapa, you can learn from them (Passes the torch to others to say something nice) |
