Big chance to blow this open here. indeed. at least they got a run out of it... usually a bases loaded, no out situation will net a team at least 2 runs. but with JV and this bullpen out there to get the final 12 outs, a 3 run lead ought to be sufficient.

I'm kind of liking the idea of having Joe Smith coming back around late July or early August as a fresh arm who should be tuned up in time for the playoffs, but not tired like most pitchers that time of the season.

The current Tigers pitcher attended Smithson HS in Spring Branch

Reininger is a guy who has put up stellar numbers at AAA but just hasn't been able to put it together in the MLB... this is his third season trying. 26 years old already... he better hurry up I suppose.

Evan Gattis sure was the Master of the Triple that one season. I don't see that he has signed on anywhere this year, even on a minor league deal.

A win tonight and it’s a 7 1/2 game lead.

In 2016, Will Harris popped off a string of 26 consecutive scoreless relief appearances. That was during that stretch when the rest of the pitching staff was falling apart and giving games away late... and pretty much sinking the playoff hopes for that season.
What Pressly is doing is, by comparison, just amazing.

As well as Bregman is showing power this season, he’s not doing great compared to last season.

Ronny Rodriguez is one of the more interesting utility players out there. Plays all 4 infield positions and has hit a respectable .278 in 268 big league ABs. Not a big power guy, but for a bench player, what's not to like.

Merciless of Osuna to strike out the side like that.

I'd say Aledmys deserves player of the game honors for this one. If he hadn't caught that line drive, this might not be such a happy evening.
And for a guy who created a lot of doubts his first couple weeks with the team...

So far this season, by the yardstick of UZR (Ultimate Zone Rating), Aledmys Diaz is outpacing Altuve as a defensive second baseman by a score of +0.3 to -0.8.
By the same measure, Correa ranks as the weakest defensive player at -1.5 as a shortstop. I wish it weren't so... maybe his defense will improve as the season goes on. It's not like he should be suffering age-related decline at this point in his career.

something kind of interesting about Tyler White's season... When he has started a game at 1B this year, he has hit .313. What more could anyone ask of him, right?
But when he has started in the DH position, he has only hit .189. This reminds me of how Evan Gattis got into a rut where he could only hit when he started a game as catcher. Some guys just have to play the field to keep themselves locked in mentally. Maybe White is one of those players.
White is earning the league minimum salary this year and next, so with the possibility that starting him at 1B might solve most or all of his current problems, I'd imagine he gets at least another 100 PAs (regardless of outcome) before there is any thought of putting him on waivers or releasing him.
If there is a trade partner out there willing to give him an everyday starting job at 1B, that might work out well for everyone concerned.

Diaz is looking good. However, he is no Altuve. Nobody is. Go Stros!

Coming back from Connecticut that were saying that Presley has tied some guy back in 2011 with 37 innings of not giving up a run going back to last year.
