Jason Castro with 7 HRs now and not even 55 ABs on the season And you forget this. Jason Castro with only 25 called third strike looking and arguing with the umpire this season in 55 ABs. It's an impostor! The real Jason Castro has been kidnapped!!!... They must have taken Jake Marisnick as well...

It's never been a lack of power with Castro. I never quite understood why people grew to be so frustrated with Castro. Was it because he was a high draft pick and people wanted more?
From just a number's viewpoint, he was a 93 OPS+ 1.5 WAR per season catcher with double digit HRs and solid to good defense. Hell, if we could get that from Stassi and/or Stubbs we'd be good to go at that position.

For me, it was the fact that he was a catcher and argued every called third strike despite the great majority of them being in the zone. If he were a great hitter, I’d give him a pass but he’s Jason Castro.

I read somewhere that if you took all of the Astros/Colt45's who ever played and assembled the best ones (by WAR) to form a hypothetical team, Castro would be chosen as the catcher. For some reason, it's a position the organization has been weak at compared with other positions. I'd have thought maybe Ausmus or Ashby would be chosen, but neither of them were standouts. It's overdue for the Astros to have a Bench/Posey/Carter type Catcher of the Ages.

If he were a great hitter, I’d give him a pass but he’s Jason Castro. The strikeouts don't bother me if a player is doing great things when he isn't striking out. But complaining about it is embarrassing. More so if it's a weak hitter but it's not cool even if he's a slugger. I remember a game in 2012 where Miggy got his ass tossed for bitching about a called third. I thought that was bush league. Just accept the call and take a seat. You can't help your team the next time through the order if you're out of the game.

Ashby came from a time when barely anything was expected from a catcher, and Ausmus was probably always a little overrated by fans (although he did have some decent years). But hey, Stubbs is looking a little better recently....

But hey, Stubbs is looking a little better recently.... Stubbs has already swiped four bases this season and only been caught once. I can't remember the last time the Astros had a catcher who could steal second on any kind of regular basis. Stubbs looks like he could probably keep his K% under 25% in the big leagues. If he can do that, he ought to put the ball in play enough to make things happen offensively enough of the time. And, he's thrown out 5 of 12 base stealers this season. That's one area the current Astros catchers could stand to improve on.
