I know everybody is frustrated, but if you go back and look at some of what happened, we were right in this. The Rays scored two runs due to seeing eye singles in the first inning. The only two runs they actually hit well were the two HRs. Even if you say they probably would have scored one of the other runs in the 1st inning, the d'Arnaud single was just poor luck. That would have made it 3-0. Chirinos hit the HR. 3-1. The lineout double plays by Reddick and Brantley were both with no outs. Both of them would have likely ended up with runners on the corners or even 2nd and 3rd with no outs. We could have just easily managed a run in each of those innings, if not more. 3-3. Altuve getting thrown out at the plate. It took perfect throws and a perfect relay to get him. If either of the throws are delayed or off-line at all, we get it. 4-3. In a different world, we could have just as easily won that game. It just didn't work out. Looking for people to blame is pointless. edit: If they keep hitting the ball hard, things will turn around. Springer finally started looking right, and Brantley barely missed a HR and a double down the line. I know Yordan had the bad strikeout, but him, Altuve, and Bregman are having a good series. This could be a blessing in disguise. If they can overcome this and take Game 5, that will give them a don of momentum and confidence going into the ALCS. This was likely going to be our hardest series. It's against the best pitching in baseball in a short series. Thank you for this post.

This opinion may not be too popular with the Fugee group here, but IMO JV's insistence to pitch yesterday on short rest may have cost us the series. Granted, I know the bats have went silent, but I am guessing he would have been a hell of lot more effective at home Thursday with full rest.
We pay Verlander big bucks to pitch. Not to manage this club.

JV and Greinke losing their games back to back is a clever way of saying: We need Cole long term. I pin tonight's loss on two things......our pitiful hitting and Hinch's decision to start Verlander. Verlander kept us in the game.....the offense did nothing. No matter who started, it’s hard to win on one run.

Alright Cole. We need you big time on Thursday. More importantly the offense needs to score at least 5 runs. The team needs to score early and often in game 5. I fully expect CFM to be used in a fireman/closer type role in game 5. He can pitch an inning or two on Thursday and it will be just like throwing between starts for him. He can come back on Saturday and start game 1 of the ALCS for the Rays. If we are trailing in the 8th inning and Charlie is brought in to finish up, I’m afraid we will know how the Dodgers felt in game 7 of the 2017 WS. It is important that we get an early lead and keep it. We need at least 6 and preferably 7 strong innings from Cole. If the Rays lead late and Morton comes in, the party is over and this team will be on record with the team that lost to Kevin Brown and the Padres as a bunch of choke artists.

I have no doubt that everybody criticizing the decision to pitch Verlander in the fourth game would have screamed bloody murder if he was on the bench while we start either Miley or Urquidy and the same results happened. Why leave your best pitchers on the bench in such an important game? You know I'm right.

Furthermore I know my opinion is not too popular here, but I will come out and say that Verlander may have cost us a WS. Fact 1- JV insisted that he started Tuesday. I am a huge Verlander fan, but we pay him to pitch, not make mangerial decisions. Fact 2- There has been much made on how playoff pitchers have faired poorly with short rest. The history andpercentages just didn't favor us. Fact 3- We now have to use Cole for G5. If we win, and that is a big if based on how we are hitting right now. Cole and Verlander will only be able to be used once in the ALCS Thus 5 games without our top 2 starters. And folks ,the Yankees are pounding the ball right now, and have solid pitching

The first three games of the NLCS will be Greinke, Verlander and Cole and the last three will be Greinke Verlander and Cole. It's the same pitchers in a different order. We still have to get through a fourth game with someone else, but we're still using the best pitchers.

However, of thatcosts us the WS I lay it on HInch instead of Verlander...Hinch made the call to do it. He said later he never thought of doing anything else.

Man, JV looked so average with short rest. All of his offspeed pitches became changeups.

Wait. Did we go back to the national league? I'm only playing Marshall.
