I voted catcher since the poll asks which area needs addressing, not which we think will be addressed. We're definitely not trading for a catcher though.

They won’t trade for catcher. Maldonado is a God to them.

I voted for a First Baseman.

I think most of us will agree that the team’s most pressing need is a catcher who can hit. That said, I don’t think Click will trade for a catcher nor do I think he will trade for a first baseman. If he makes a trade at all, I think it will be for a relief pitcher.

Like Olpapa pointed out, Click is probably just going to get a reliever. With the DH being universal now, I guess it's not as important to have a deep bench.

You don’t think he’ll make a splash with Reynolds or Bell? Not Reynolds, I believe there's three more years of team control, the cost would be exorbitant. Bell, being he's a pending free agent, should be more feasible.

I think if Click makes a position-player acquisition, it will be someone who can man first base while his salary is arb-controlled for the near-term. Depending on how long Yuli plans to play, Matijevic's OBP in his last 20 PAs is .300, and Díaz's is .297 in his last 37 PAs

Meyer has been doing well for the last couple of weeks but it is hard to bank on that continuing. Our bench is pathetic, no matter what we need to add at least one bat that can hit.

Bell, being he's a pending free agent, should be more feasible. IMO, if Click trades for a bat (and I doubt that he will) it won’t be a catcher. I think it will be a first baseman.... probably one who can play a corner OF position in a pinch. A month or so ago I thought Trey Mancini might fit the bill. I just looked at Mancini’s numbers and I’m not sure that Mancini would be enough of an improvement over Yuli to make much of a difference down the stretch and in the playoffs. Bell would appear to be a much better option if the goal is to add a bat.

I think Jorge Alfaro would be a good add. Also like Josh Bell moving Yuli to a super utility role.

I voted first baseman, and if I had to pick a target, I'd go for the former Pirate 1B Josh Bell.

I think Jorge Alfaro would be a good add. Also like Josh Bell moving Yuli to a super utility role. Putting Josh Bell’s bat in the lineup every day and moving Yuli into a utility role would make the team better offensively. Diaz and Yuli should be able to handle the utility needs of the team. I like the Dubon kid, but he is contributing zero with the bat.

Mancini is still the way to go, imo. He can take a corner OF spot or he can play 1B. Plus, he has a reasonable option for next year if he agrees to pick it up on his side. (Or maybe we work out a deal for an extra few years to keep him since we have no real 1B in the pipeline.)

CJ Cron could also be a reasonable 1B to target. He's not a great OBP guy, but the power is legitimate and he has a small price tag.

Over at climbingtalshill they had an article talking about Danny Jansen. He is a young catcher with what seems to be a good bat that currently is on rehab assignment due to getting hit on the hand with a fastball.
They mentioned Odorizzi as a possible headliner going back. That seems to be a deal that would work.

I'm not sure he'd be much of an improvement.

Guess I will go take a look

772 ops in 21 and 915 so far this year.
He does not seem to hit much for average but does have some pop. Controllable for a bit as well. For Odorizzi it would be perhaps, what else is involved.

Sure, but he has had plenty of solid success before he was a Rockie. He's not Yuli in his prime, but he's better than 2020 or 2022 Yuli.

It'd be nice to get Benintendi, but I think Merrifield is the guy KC wants to unload

Yuli's last 15 games: .294/.345/.510
And Meyers is hitting. IMO, once Pena and Brantley are back there won't be a way to upgrade anyone outside of catcher in any meaningful way without giving up Hunter Brown. And it seems very unlikely they'll be trading for a catcher.
I really, really doubt we pick up a starting-quality bat.
