Correa busting it down to first with their season on the line. Got me on that one. I thought that was a serious statement until I clicked.

Crisis averted when Correa did not take the Astros extension offer

Baltimore's 7-2 win over Minnesota eliminated the Twins from the WC picture. The Orioles locked down the #4 seed.
The Tigers (86-74) are one game ahead of the Royals (85-75) but each team has two games left on the schedule. Also, the Royals have a better record head-to-head against the Tigers, so if both teams have the same record at the end of the season, the Royals will get the #5 seed and the Tigers #6.
Can I get a "Go Tigers"?

Can I get a "Go Tigers"? I think the Royals are probably the better team overall, but the Tigers are blazing hot and have all the confidence in the world. Skubal and Flaherty is a heck of a 1-2 punch, but the Royals rotation is good and deep and made our hitters look like chumps for the most part. Offenses seem about equal. Royals bullpen looks clearly weaker though. Yeah I'd probably rather see the Royals first. Go Tigers!

Jack was one of the few annual reclamation projects that worked out for the Tigers. But since the Tigers odds of making it to the postseason was virtually nonexistent at the deadline, he was traded to the Dodgers for prospects. That leaves us with just Tarik Skubal, Reese Olson, and Keider Montero as actual starters. Other days we use an "opener" from the bullpen, a bulk pitcher, and go back to the bullpen. Complete patchwork but it has mostly been successful.

Complete patchwork but it has mostly been successful. Oh, totally forgot about that. I'm tempted to change my vote then, but this lineup can disappear against anybody, so... My hopes are based on emotion and optimism. If the Astros play the Tigers in the first round, exactly one of my two favorite teams will advance to the ALDS. But I'm hoping for something better. If the Astros and Tigers both advance through their brackets, they could meet in the ALCS. If that works out, on of my two favorite teams will go to the World Series. The Tigers remain one game ahead of the Royals, as both teams lost yesterday. There are four possible outcomes by the end of today. Three are good for the Tigers, one in bad. Tigers win, Royals lose: Tigers end the season two games ahead of the Royals. Tigers are the #5 seed. Tigers and Royals both win: Tigers end the season one game ahead of the Royals. Tigers are the #5 seed. Tigers and Royals both lose: Tigers end the season one game ahead of the Royals. Tigers are the #5 seed. Tigers lose, Royals win: Tigers and Royals end the season in a tie. Royals have the tiebreaker, so Tigers are the #6 seed.

In fairness, Correa has had one of the best years of his career. Finally? Well, it depends on what one values. By wRC+ he had his best year ever, and just his second hitting .300 or better. He also posted his best strikeout rate ever. But since he missed so many games, his WAR is low. His best year in terms of total value provided is still his last season with Houston.

He barely played half the season.

In other news . . . Tigers lost, Royals won. Royals earn the #5 seed so they go up against the Orioles while the Tigers face the Astros.

I have a bad feeling about playing Detroit in a 3-game series. They're probably the weakest team in the playoffs (outside of Skubal) but they're red hot. They're the D-Backs from 2023.

I don’t happen to think the man is the Antichrist for leaving. I have complained about his propensity for injury just like I complain about Peña’s strikeouts on sliders and his weak throws. If anything, you should appreciate Correa more since he publicly defended your grandson Altuve.
