Maybe Felipe Rivero changed his last name because he got off to a bad start. Maybe this is a solution for Giles. He can change his name to _______________________. (fill in the blank) PTBNL *****

Calm, I say calm down down, son! Sipp is no good! No doggone good! He’s no chicken hawk! Sipp is on the DL right now...and the Astros are better for it. Chomping at the bit to be able to call him "Pink Slip" Sipp.

Totally he's Doc from Major League 3 Doc Windgate is a legend. My favorite part of Major League 3 was when the bus literally picked Taka off the side of road and added him to the roster. The Players Union would've filed a grievance over that transaction

My problem with that movie is you previously had Clu Haywood and Jack Parkman as the main rivals and follow that up with Carlos Liston. He didn’t even hit real pitches!

Scott Bakula can be a manager as long as Dean Stockwell can be the pitching coach.

Thanks. I just watched the episode. Of course it was reversed, but that might be a trick to keep it from showing up as an unauthorized online feed. It was... fascinating...

I guess the next logical step in Star Trek, from the decon scenes and the vulcan behind a sheet on Enterprise, was the travesty known as Discovery dropping Trek's first F-bomb. And advertising that they were gonna do it.

Gratuitous but appreciated. Figured a hot bodied Vulcan might raise you diastolic rate a few bars. I actually knew a congressional aide to a well-known senator whom I won't name here (he represented Rhode Island) and this fellow told me that one of the Senate subcommittees actually did have a meeting to address the question of: Should aliens land on Earth and find themselves genetically compatible with humans, should the U.S. Congress take actions to make human-alien mating illegal? He claimed not to know what conclusions, if any, that subcommittee reached.

Here is an encouraging off-day stat on the Astros bullpen.
We all know that the bullpen has often been quite bad in high leverage situations. So bad, in fact, that the Astros bullpen ranks dead last in MLB when the game is on the line. In those situations, the bullpen has a 10.50 ERA and opponents are hitting .364. It's like Barry Bonds just suddenly appears at the plate in these situations.
The good news is that the Astros relievers aren't really pitching very badly in those situations -- in terms of the % of swings and misses they are generating, the ratio of strikeouts to walks, the amount of weak contact, the number of ground balls, etc. Based on all those things, the Astros bullpen has an xFIP (we can sort of think of it like a predicted ERA) of only 3.06 and opponents "ought" to only be hitting .222. The results going forward should, in theory, trend more towards that opponent batting avg of .222 and ERA of 3.06. I can live with those numbers!

In fact, the Astros bullpen in high leverage situations is hands-down the least likely bullpen to give up a walk (7% chance), and one of the most likely to get a strikeout (28%).
Right now, opponents are running a completely unsustainable .500 BABIP (which compares to the MLB average of .270 in these situations). It means that the luck factor, in terms of bloops that find a patch of grass, or grounders that squeak through the shift, has allowed opponents to do almost double the amount of offensive damage one would normally expect based on how they hit the ball.
Last season, the highest BABIP against under high leverage that any team had to endure was .346 (for the 2017 Astros it was .342). So I would expect that current BABIP against of .500 to fall to somewhere around the .300 area but it certainly shouldn't be anything higher than .350 by the end of the season.
In 2017, opponents hit .243 against the Astros bullpen in high leverage situations. I have to think that the current .346 average will fall to no more than the .250 level by October and probably a bit lower than that still.
